No Experience? No Problem!
While prior experience with horses or individuals with disabilities is certainly helpful, it’s not required—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn! All volunteers must attend a training session to become familiar with The Shane Center’s safety policies and procedures.
Volunteer duties may include:
Assisting with lesson setup and cleanup
Leading horses during sessions
Helping participants mount and dismount
Walking or jogging alongside riders for support
Your time and energy make a real difference—and we’re excited to welcome you to the team!
Lesson Volunteers (ages 14+) Lesson volunteers must be fit enough to walk/jog for 60 minutes and commit to one weekly lesson for 8 weeks. Tasks include helping with horses, assisting riders, and cleanup.

After your visit, complete the remaining paperwork using our Volunteer Form App via the link we send you, or request printed copies. Please know that ALL volunteers over the age of 18 are required to complete a BCI & I fingerprint background check.
If you are 18 years old or older, obtain BCI&I fingerprint background report from your local law enforcement location within 30 days of completing your paperwork and send the results to The Shane Center. Click on the fingerprint icon which will take you to the Ohio Attorney General's official website for more information. (Use BCI code 523-081) This check is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of our team and those we serve.
